1. Introduction

Cosmos is a space-exploration application that displays NASA imagery, media, videos, and live streams. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App.

2. Information the App handles

Cosmos does not require an account and does not operate a developer-managed server for your saved content or viewing history. Content you choose to save, such as favourites, is stored locally on your device. The App may also use temporary caches and WebView storage to improve performance and playback.

When the App requests content, NASA and other service providers may receive technical information such as your IP address, device or browser details, and request metadata required to deliver content securely.

3. YouTube video playback

The App uses the YouTube embedded player to show NASA videos and live streams. Loading or playing embedded YouTube content may send information to Google or YouTube, including IP address, device and browser identifiers, cookies or similar technologies, playback activity, player interactions, and referrer information.

YouTube may use this information to deliver and secure playback, enforce content restrictions, prevent fraud and abuse, remember preferences, measure activity, and personalise content according to your Google settings. This processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service. If you do not want information sent to YouTube, do not open or play YouTube content in the App.

4. How information is used

Information handled by the App is used to:

• retrieve and display NASA imagery, media, and descriptions;
• play requested videos and live streams;
• remember content that you choose to save;
• cache content for performance and playback; and
• diagnose loading or playback failures on your device.

5. Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell personal information. We do not operate a server that receives your saved items, viewing history, or personal details. Technical information is transmitted to NASA and to Google or YouTube when necessary to retrieve or play their content, as described above.

Your Android device may back up App data, including locally saved favourites, to a backup service associated with your device account if device backup is enabled. That backup is controlled by your device and backup provider, not by Cosmos.

6. Data retention and deletion

Saved favourites remain on your device until you remove them, clear the App's storage, or uninstall the App. Temporary caches, WebView storage, and cookies remain until removed by the App, Android, the relevant system component, or you. Backed-up copies may remain according to your device backup provider's retention rules.

You can delete locally stored App information through Android Settings → Apps → Cosmos → Storage → Clear storage, by uninstalling the App, or by removing individual favourites inside the App.

7. Security

The App uses HTTPS when connecting to NASA and YouTube services. Saved favourites are held in the App's private storage area, subject to Android's security and backup behaviour. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the App limits permissions and data handling to what is needed for its features.

8. Children's privacy

Cosmos is a general-audience space-exploration application and is not specifically directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Third-party NASA and YouTube content is governed by those services' policies.

9. External links and international processing

The App may open NASA or YouTube pages in another application or browser. Once you leave Cosmos, the destination service's privacy policy and terms apply. NASA, Google, YouTube, device backup providers, and their service providers may process technical information in countries other than your own, according to their policies and applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when App features, service providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date above and publish the revised policy at this same URL.
